Khao Tom Pla Kimpo is one of favorite places to eat in Bangkok. It a Teochew styled porridge where soup is poured over boiled rice. Even though this place sells mainly fish and seafood porridge, it is not without pork. Pork bones is used for the soup stock and also stewed diced pork pieces are used for the spicy salad. Many up market restaurants in Bangkok tries to one up their competition by being gimmicky like throwing a foam and smoke here and there and trying to deconstruct dishes. Paste does none of those. They just focus of make great tasting Thai dishes with a simple presentation and let the experience and tastes tells the story.
You may feel a little suspicious of the food when you enter because it will mostly be non-Thai customers. We went there for lunch, so I am not sure about the dinner crowd.
For lunch for 3 persons, they have 2 lunch tasting menu at about 1,200 and 2,100 baht each. However, this means that we only get to eat about 4 same dishes so we opted for ala carte instead and it was a good choice. Not only were we able to sample many different dishes, the total costs comes out to be about the same had we chosen the 2,100 baht set lunch. Continue reading “Paste @ GaySorn Bangkok”
Just landed in Survarnabhumi airport in Bangkok and feeling hungry but tired of airport restaurant food? Have some spare time (which you should always have!) before checking in for your departure and want to quick bite but tired of the same tired airport restaurant food?
Well head down to the food court on the first floor for a meal of local fares and local prices. The food court is located on the first floor where the taxis and coaches are located at door number. Continue reading “Food Court at Survarnabhumi airport”
Yang Gao Gorn or like the old times in Thai is an odd little Thai restaurant situated on the second floor of the Frank and Release futsal field. Its about 10-15 minutes walk from Ari BTS station.
We were there on a Sunday around 1 pm and it was quite empty except for one table of customers, so we did not have to wait for our seats nor food in general. The setup is pretty sparse since it is not meant to be a fancy place and aims to serve folks staying around that area or playing futsal. The kitchen is located at the ground floor so you don’t get a greasy smell of cooked food in the restaurant. By the way, the toilet is also on the ground floor sharing with the futsal pitch. This is the second time I have been back to this ancient restaurant and I had to write about it again because the food is still good. I am not going to overrate this place as not all food are that great, some are normal food that you can find anywhere and there isn’t any bad tasting food that we could not finish for sure. But for the price and the tastes of some of its dishes, it definitely worth come back again. Continue reading “Poj Spa Karn (โภจน์สภาคาร) @ Tanao Road Bangkok – Oldies but goodies (revisit)”
Eat is a restaurant by the famed Supanigga Eating Room at Thong Lor, which is one of the Top 20 restaurants in Bangkok. Eat is located at the 2nd level of Groove, which is the food extension of Central World in Bangkok. The menu appears to be the same as the one in Thong Lor, but I am not sure if the prices are cheaper here or similar. The restaurant serves Eastern and Central styled Thai food and does a very good job with most of their dishes. They keep the taste as original as possible which means you can expect quite spicy food and flavorful food.
Our only complain we have is that each dish is pretty small in size such that for a table of 7 persons, we need to order two of each dish so that all of us gets to eat more than one mouthful per dish. As you can see from the review below, we order 2 of each dish and there was a lot of dishes. In normal restaurants we probably stop at around 6 dishes.
Audrey Cafe is a chain of french inspired cafe that operates in a few major shopping centers in Bangkok in which EmQuartier is one of those location. The decor of the cafe is indeed quaint and pretty and gives you a very relaxing feel when seating in the cafe.
The food menu contains both Thai and Western food with a selection of pastas and pizzas. As me and my friend were not that hungry, we did not go for the main courses and just chose some food to nibble on. Continue reading “Audrey Cafe @ EmQuartier Bangkok – Pretty food but disappointing taste”
